Rheumatoid arthritis is an inflammatory type of arthritis which affects the joints and may affect other parts of the body. People with rheumatoid arthritis may experience periods of worsening symptoms (flare) or an absence of clinical signs and symptoms (remission). Certain features of rheumatoid arthritis make it different from other types of arthritis.
Rheumatoid arthritis affects people differently. Some people have mild to moderate disease process while other people have severe forms of the disease that can lead to joint damage, serious systemic problems, chronic pain and fatigue, and deformities.
